The Open Knowledge Vietnam Project operates on the philosophy of “Contribute one page, open ten thousand horizons”. We call on a network of multilingual students, study-abroad students, young lecturers, and experts working in professional fields to contribute. With just 30 minutes per week, you can become a “Knowledge Ambassador,” contributing 1 paragraph or 1 page to complete a textbook for millions of people to use.
Community Translation Model (Crowdsourcing)
In order to translate OpenStax’s massive textbooks effectively and with standard academic quality, the project operates under a collaborative model:
- Open Recruitment of Volunteers: Senior students, study-abroad students, lecturers, or anyone passionate about sharing knowledge can apply.
- Collaborative Translation: Utilizing professional translation platforms like Crowdin or Weblate. Book chapters are broken down into small segments of 1-2 sentences or 1-2 paragraphs, helping volunteers translate quickly during their free time on both computers and phones.
- Academic Peer-Review Board (Core Team): After community translation, the editorial board consisting of leading lecturers and experts will read, check grammar, and synchronize professional glossary terms to ensure the highest academic quality before publishing.
